Dreams have finally become a reality for Wellington-based couple Unna and Aaron after completing their first (of many) renovations on their property. When self-taught stylist Unna and her builder husband bought their first home they knew it was going to be an ongoing project. They liked their cute, kiwi kitchen, however, said it lacked bench space and had no storage. Through a neutral colour scheme, modern appliances and tiles that replicate natural materials the pair have created a contemporary kitchen that looks bigger and brighter!
Concrete-look tiles were the perfect choice for this earthy, on-trend home and we love that they have been used in such a fresh and modern setting. The texture of the tiles gives an industrial feel, whilst pairing wood with soft pastel colours immediately brightens the room and keeps the tones warm.
The tile used is Aged Stone L/Grey, a 600x600 porcelain tile suitable for both floors and walls. Porcelain is impervious to water, therefore, making it a great choice for kitchens. Its low maintenance and fuss-free, perfect for a busy family!
The white gloss square mosaic creates a stunning focal point and really ties the kitchen together. Tiling the almost five-metre benchtop was a brave move for the Wellington-based couple and selecting a suitable grout is vital. A contrasting grout makes the design pop, whereas a matching grout will create a more subtle look. They used a grey epoxy grout from Tile Space which creates a statement and works well with the concrete tone. An epoxy grout is a great option for kitchen surfaces and bathrooms due to its long-wearing, waterproof and stain resistant qualities. We love that they continued the same tile through to the splashback and countertops to keep the space cohesive.
And if that wasn't enough tile envy for one kitchen, they added our most loved decorative tile in the pantry, Harrow Grafito. The black and white patterned tile creates the perfect feature, without moving away from the style of their home. It's these subtle details that make this renovation such a success.
Uuna is already considering using these again for their en-suite so watch this space!
