How to prepare for your tiling project

How to prepare for your tiling project

We always get asked "What should I bring to a tile consult" and the honest answer is you can bring as little or as much as you like. Our design consultants are experts in the field and love to see what inspiration you have. By understanding the style of your home and measurements of the space they can best visualise what you want to achieve and advise accordingly. However, If you turn up empty handed we have lots of images, brochures and magazines in store to help you get the look you want.

Check out our tips below on how you can be best prepared when choosing tiles!flat lay square, tile ideas

Get inspired! There are hundreds of different tiles to choose from, so narrowing down the look you want can be difficult. Browse our website, view our Instagram for the latest looks or create a Pinterest board and have everything saved in one place. When you have your inspiration, look for a reoccurring theme:

  • Can you see a distinctive style coming through? Minimal, Scandi, Colourful, Romantic, Beachy.
  • What look do you like best? Marble, Concrete, Timber, Decorative, Mosaic.
  • Consider how the inspiration you have will flow with the rest of your home.

  1. Samples

If you have begun collecting paint colours or fabric swatches or have a focal point like a piece of art bring them with you. Samples are a great way of seeing how your options will work together and our expert design consultants can help bring your ideas to life. At Tile Space we recommend pairing cool colours with cool and warm colours with warm. It's amazing how many different shades of white paint are out there so by having all your ideas laid out together you gain a feel for how the space will look.

How long does a consult take?

It really depends on the individual and how far along the process you are at. Our team will begin by asking what type of look you are interested in and showing you a variety of options.

Can I take samples away?

Of course, we encourage it! All our stores have sample tiles and mosaics that you can take home and see in your space. Be sure to go back and look at them in the room under different light throughout the day.

Will I get an idea of how much it will cost?

Yes, all of our tiles are priced per square metre or sheet, this way if you know the square meterage of your room it will give you an accurate idea of the cost that you can expect and it makes it easier to compare the price of different sized tiles. Once you have decided on your favourites our design consultants can write you a quote.

Can you recommend a tiler?

Yes, we have a number of tilers that we trust and can provide a list of those whose work we have received no complaints. Find one that’s right for you and your job and get them booked in sooner rather than later as they can then measure your space and be confident you have the right number of tiles.
