Wednesday 14th November saw local designers and architects call into our Parnell store for a light bite, our latest new ranges and a refresher on Slimtech, an ultra thin large slab porcelain from Italian suppliers LEA Ceramiche. LEA produce about 26 million m2 of tiles per year and they are the original producers of large slabs, pioneering a product called Slimtech.
Slimtech are thin slabs in 3.5mm and 5.5mm thick, they are light, and thanks to the fibreglass backing, easier to handle. One exciting application is that they can be laid over an older tiled surface, provided it is flat and level. The following video explains why Slimtech is a superior product.
Another key component of most LEA tiles is that they have a Microban Protect system. (All of our stocked tiles except for the Bio Recover range). Microban is based on the biological properties of silver, which blocks the metabolism of the bacteria so it can’t proliferate. LEA’s parent company developed the technology to allow the material to survive the firing process, meaning that it’s embeded in the tile and lasts for the entire lifecycle. A great option for kitchens, bathrooms and commercial applications such as medical centers, daycare centers, gyms and anywhere where cleanliness is a priority.
One of the most exciting projects achieved with Slimtech slabs was by LEA’s sister company Kerlite – where they clad two 8.6km tunnels in thin Kerlite slabs. Check out the video here.
But LEA make more than just Slimtech tiles, they have produced some of our best selling ranges including Cliffstone, Waterfall and an exciting new range called Nextone which combines stones from four different quarries and fuses their characteristics together to create an original design, with a natural aesthetic quality and a balanced affect. Browse the range here.
