When it comes to renovating a bathroom there are so many trends and design ideas out there it can be quite overwhelming knowing which look will suit your space best. For a timeless look, we recommend a design that matches your own personal style and the style of your home. Think about the colours and furnishings in other rooms, is there a reoccurring theme? Quality products and a well-thought-out design is a great place to start. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are one of the most easily maintained flooring materials, generally, any household cleaner or even soap and warm water will do the job. It's also important to invest in products that are guaranteed to last and ensure any tradesmen you hire are at a high standard, after all, you will be looking at their work for the next 10 years+. From replicating natural looks like marble or concrete to bold encaustic floors, the possibilities are endless. Check out some of our favourites below.
The industrial look has been around for years and doesn't look to be going away any time soon. The urban feel that concrete look tiles bring to a space works well with the classic NZ design sensibility. The practicality of porcelain tile makes it a great option when real concrete is impractical or expensive to pour and unlike natural concrete, porcelain tiles are impervious, making them perfect for bathrooms and high traffic areas. With an array of shapes and sizes, this look can be achieved no matter the size of your room. A common look is continuing the tile from the floor to ceiling, this gives the illusion that the area is bigger, another option is a concrete tile in a hexagon or mosaic for added detail.

Subway and decorative tiles are a classic look that stand the test of time. With so many design possibilities, colours and laying patterns you can be as creative as you like. Laying patterns such as stack lay give a modern look, while brick lay and herringbone look more traditional. You can even stack them vertically for an on-trend look and experiment with contrasting grout to make the design pop.

For a spa-like feel, timber and stone is a common theme. This look brings us back to nature and adds a fantastic warmth and texture to an otherwise neutral palette. Creating a focal point and adding spotlights is also an important feature for this bright and airy design. Unlike natural materials porcelain tile is highly durable, water resistant, stain resistant, easy to maintain and clean and is compatible with under flooring heating, making it a great option for a premium bathroom.

Encaustic (cement) tiles are the most traditional type of tile we know and have been used by many cultures over hundreds of years. Today we replicate the traditional look we love to create a practical porcelain tile that doesn't need sealing and won't fade over time. This look can be achieved by creating a feature floor or walls, thereby adding a bit of fun and an artistic feel to a room. As bathrooms tend to be a room we spend less time in they are the perfect place to be a bit bolder and let your room pop.

With its elegant and timeless feel, you can't go past marble. Marble look tiles are available in a myriad of sizes from XL 1200x2400 to small mosaics. The great thing about large format tiles is you can create stunning focal points using just 1 or 2 pieces, this makes the tile look more realistic as fewer grout lines are shown. As beautiful as they are practical marble look tiles put a dream home within reach of everyone.
